14 Installation
Unpacking and Inspecting
To unpack and inspect the SNC 6101 following delivery
1 Remove all items from the shipping carton.

Unpack and inspect SNC
6101 and accessories.
Ensure that the SNC 6101 was received undamaged
and with all accessories enclosed. Refer to Unpacking
and Inspecting on page 14.

Assemble all items used
during SNC 6101
installation process.
Prior to beginning your installation, you must have
acquired all the items identified in Pre-Installation
on
page 15.

Install the SNC 6101 into
the Scalar 100 chassis.
Refer to Installing the SNC 6101 in a Scalar 100 on
page 16.

Cable the SNC 6101 SCSI
ports to the Scalar 100
SCSI devices.
For cabling the SCSI ports, refer to Cabling the SNC
6101 on page 17.

Configure the SNC 6101
using the service port.
For configuration instructions, refer to Configuring the
SNC 6101 on page 21.

Upgrade the SNC 6101
firmware using the Ethernet
port.
Firmware is upgraded using FTP (file transfer protocol)
between a host and the SNC 6101. Refer to To upgrade
SNC 6101 Firmware on page 25.

Verify SNC 6101 operation. Following SNC 6101 installation and configuration, refer
to Verifying SNC 6101 Operation
on page 28.

Install the Host Bus
Adapter (HBA) card in the
host.
For installation of your HBA card, refer to Installing the
Host Bus Adapter Card on page 26. For other HBA
cards, refer to the current literature provided by the
card’s manufacturer.

Install HBA drivers and
firmware.
For the latest driver and firmware installation in your
HBA card, refer to Installing the Host Bus Adapter Card
on page 26.

Connect SNC 6101 Fibre
Channel port(s) to host or
switch as required.
Refer to Verifying SNC 6101 Operation
on page 28.

Verify HBA operation with
the SNC 6101.
Following HBA installation and driver/firmware updates,
refer to Verifying SNC 6101 Operation
on page 28.
Note
Save the packing materials in case it is necessary to move or ship the SNC
6101 in the future.
